My name is Pamela Johnston. I am currently enrolled in ODU’s RN to BSN program and will graduate in August of 2015. I received my diploma of Nursing from DePaul Medical Center of Professional Nurses in April of 1995 and have been working at The Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters since August of that year. I specialize in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and have been working on the same floor for the past 20 years. In 2011, I became certified as a Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurse (CPHON). I live in Virginia Beach with my husband and my three children. In 2001, my mother joined our household and we have been ever so grateful and blessed to have her with us. Without their support, my journey would not have been able to happen at this time. My free time is limited due to working full time and shuffling children back and forth to extracurricular activities, but when I have a moment, I enjoy reading and photography. My experience at ODU has opened my eyes to a whole different world of nursing beyond the bedside, which has changed my educational goals for myself. I now plan on going back to school in the near future and work on my Doctorate of Nursing (DNP) in order to teach. In preparing this site, you are now able to bear witness to my journey from a diploma nurse to a baccalaureate prepared nurse.

Growing before my eyesThey did not stay little as I spent so much time studying. This is my clan as I neared the end of my challenging journey

My supportWithout the help of my mother and my family, I am not sure if we would have all remained intact. Our survival this past 4 years was entirely due my husband and mother.
